The occupation I will be investigating this semester through this project is a physical therapist. According to APTA, a physical therapist treats individuals who have medical/health conditions that limit their abilities to perform activities, such as sports. A PT treats physical disabilities and restore and maintain overall health and fitness.
I chose this particular occupation because a PT does so much to help an individual to get back on track to their highest level of performance. Many injured athletes would first go to a PT in hopes of restoring their physical abilities. This occupation really interested me because I would like to observe and learn more about the examination process/evaluations, and based on the diagnoses and their judgment, what the treatments are.
For this project, I will be shadowing David Kwong. David Kwong had worked at a sports therapy clinic in Berkeley for 5 years. He then joined Kaiser Permanente Redwood City in August of 1998. Currently, he works in sports and outpatient physical therapy.
